Grŵp Cynefin Completes £675,000 Retrofit Investment in Penrhydeudraeth

Grŵp Cynefin has successfully completed a £675,000 investment programme at Trem y Moelwyn, Penrhydeudraeth, delivering significant energy efficiency improvements to 18 homes and helping residents enjoy warmer, more comfortable and affordable living environments.

The project was funded through a combination of the Welsh Government’s Optimised Retrofit Programme (ORP) and Grŵp Cynefin’s own Capital Investment Programme. The work was delivered in partnership with Welsh Government, contractors GH James Cyf and Wakemans agents.

The programme included the installation of new windows and doors, external wall insulation (EWI), soffits, fascias and rainwater goods across the properties.

As a result of the improvements, all 18 homes have achieved SAP B energy performance ratings, significantly enhancing their energy efficiency while helping residents reduce heating costs and carbon emissions.

The investment forms part of Grŵp Cynefin’s ongoing commitment to improving existing homes, supporting sustainability goals and creating healthier living environments for residents.

In addition to the energy efficiency upgrades, the external finishes were carefully chosen to complement Maes Deudraeth, the new neighbouring housing estate jointly managed by Grŵp Cynefin and Clwyd Alyn. This approach has helped create a more cohesive appearance across the area, strengthening the sense of community and enhancing the local environment.

The completion of the project marks another important milestone in Grŵp Cynefin’s programme of investing in existing homes and supporting Wales’s journey towards a low-carbon future.
