Grŵp Cynefin Supporting World Homeless Day

On World Homeless Day (10 October 2025), Grŵp Cynefin is proud to share the positive impact its services has in preventing homelessness across north Wales.

Homelessness is a complex issue that can affect anyone. Today is a valuable opportunity to raise awareness, foster understanding, and encourage meaningful action. Grŵp Cynefin works closely with key partners including local authorities, support providers and agencies, and local mental health services to provide direct support to young people and vulnerable individuals who are at risk of homelessness.

According to recent figures from the Museum of Homelessness, 1,611 homeless people died in the UK in 2024, the highest number ever recorded. This marks a 9% increase compared to 2023. In Wales, 90 homeless people died in 2024, representing a slight decrease compared to the previous year.

One example of the vital support on offer is Yr Hafod, a supported housing unit that has been operating for over a decade at HWB Dinbych, Grŵp Cynefin’s community hub. Yr Hafod offers six high-quality self-contained flats for young people aged 16–25 who are facing homelessness, along with 24-hour support. For this year’s World Homeless Day, young people connected to Yr Hafod went shopping together to create snack packs to distribute to homeless people in the community. These packs include hand warmers, snacks and easy-to-cook items.

The support offered by Grŵp Cynefin’s services and partnerships goes beyond simply dealing with homelessness on a practical level. Further support includes working with clients to develop life skills, manage tenancies, and engage with education and employment.

Sharon Morris, Director of Neighbourhoods at Grŵp Cynefin, said: “Today, on World Homeless Day, we recognise that homelessness can be an extremely isolating and difficult experience. Grŵp Cynefin provides not only a safe place to live, but also opportunities to rebuild confidence, skills and hope. Strong partnerships and purposeful support can change lives and that’s key to Grŵp Cynefin’s work every day.

“It’s a good day to thank all our staff and partners who enable us to offer and maintain life-changing services.”
