Celebrating Apprenticeship Week Wales 2026 by sharing Grŵp Cynefin apprentices’ experiences

Grŵp Cynefin is marking Apprenticeship Week Wales 2026 by sharing the experiences of its apprentices and raising awareness of the career opportunities available within the housing sector.

Throughout the week, the Grŵp Cynefin team will be visiting events across north Wales to meet students, discuss career pathways, and highlight the important role apprenticeships play in developing the workforce.

These activities are part of Grŵp Cynefin’s commitment to supporting learners and encouraging more young people to choose a pathway that combines learning with employment.

Grŵp Cynefin is also sharing the experiences of some of its current apprentices, highlighting the real benefits an apprenticeship can offer. Mari Davies, an apprentice in the Housing Department, explains her experience:

“I chose the apprenticeship route rather than going to university because it combines the two things that matter to me – learning professional skills while also working directly with people. Through my apprenticeship, I’m learning a range of skills that are helping me grow in confidence in my role.”

David Jones, who works as an apprentice in the People and Culture Department, also shares his development journey:

“From day one, I’ve felt incredible supported by Grŵp Cynefin. I’ve learnt new skills that are helping me build a much more confident pathway for the future.”

Katy Baugh, who has worked for Grŵp Cynefin for 13 years, has taken on a slightly different learning pathway within her role as an Area Maintenance Officer, studying for a Higher National Certificate in Construction through an advanced apprenticeship route.

She says:

“The Higher National Certificate has helped improve my technical understanding of buildings and given me more confidence when assessing our properties. It feels great to be able to put what I’ve learnt into practice in my day‑to‑day role with Grŵp Cynefin.”

Elen Jones, Grŵp Cynefin’s Senior Learning and Development Officer, adds:

“It’s great to promote what Grŵp Cynefin has to offer in terms of apprenticeships and work. I hope students enjoy the events and thank you also to our apprentices for sharing their experiences. The hope is that by sharing these stories, we will inspire a new generation of talent to join Grŵp Cynefin and the housing sector.”
