Thrilling new bike ‘pump’ track opens in Denbigh!
A new bike facility in Denbigh has been officially opened by Gill German MP. The new ‘pump’ track, Bumps and Jumps, at Cae Hywel playing field in Denbigh offers a safe and exciting space for young people to ride bikes, skateboards, scooters, and wheelchairs.
The project was brought to life by the HWB Dinbych team, a community centre run by Grŵp Cynefin in Denbigh, with support from key partners.

The idea began when two local boys mentioned they needed a safe place to cycle. This inspired a youth-led project, with a group of 13-17-year-olds from Denbigh taking the lead. The group was involved in every stage of the project – sharing ideas, leading consultations, and contributing to the final design.
The track includes sections for beginners and more experienced riders, with waves and turns that allow riders to maintain speed through body movement rather than pedalling. It’s designed to be accessible and suitable for all ability levels.
The project, officially opened on Friday October 24, was delivered through a partnership between Grŵp Cynefin, HWB Dinbych, Actif North Wales, Youth Services, Denbighshire County Council, Denbigh Town Council, and local residents. The voices of young people were central to the process from start to finish.
Ffion Pittendreigh, Community Initiatives Manager at Grŵp Cynefin who own and manage HWB Dinbych, said: “The track is the result of a brilliant idea that started after a conversation with two local boys who wanted a safe place to cycle. This is what can happen when young people’s voices are heard and the right support is in place.”
Gill German MP said: “It was a pleasure to attend the official opening of Bumps and Jumps and see the well-deserved results of the initiative and hard work of the young people who led this. This is partnership work in action and an excellent example of what can be achieved when people come together. I wish the young people of Denbigh many happy hours in this great community space.”
Councillor Pauline Edwards of Denbighshire County Council said: “This is a great example of how listening to the community can lead to exciting new facilities that bring people together. The young people who led the project should be extremely proud; their determination has inspired the whole community.”
The Bumps and Jumps track is open and ready for anyone looking for an adventure on wheels!
