Grwp Cynefin broadens its area into Machynlleth

Tenants of 53 homes in Powys have a brand new landlord as housing group Grŵp Cynefin broadens its operational area into Machynlleth. The group will shortly be taking over the management of 53 properties from Wales & West Housing. They consist of 51 homes in Machynlleth and two in the village of Llanbrynmair and are a combination of social and sheltered housing.

Grŵp Cynefin is a leading force in north Wales and north Powys housing, operating across seven counties and managing nearly 4600 properties. It has won awards for its work supporting tenants, community enterprises, partnerships and is in particular leading on developing solutions to the current rural housing crisis with affordable housing to buy and rent.

Mel Evans, Group Director of Innovation and Growth, Grŵp Cynefin, says:

“We’re really pleased with this acquisition and thank Wales & West Housing. We pride ourselves on the work we do in supporting our tenants and providing an effective service for them.

“We are continuously striving to provide the best support and services,” he said, “and look forward to working with our new Machynlleth tenants and the local community.”

Carys Edwards, Chair of Grŵp Cynefin Management  Board says: “This is a positive move for Grŵp Cynefin and it feels like a good ‘fit’ for both Grŵp Cynefin and Machynlleth.

“I’m looking forward to meeting tenants and getting to know the community.” she addded. “We put great emphasis on tenants’ voices, with representation on the Board and a dedicated Customer and Community Committee. Tenants have a strong voice when developing strategies and developments within the group and I’m looking forward to hearing the Dyfi accent amongst those voices!”

Grŵp Cynefin, which includes two subsidiary companies, employs more than 300 staff members and manages 4600 homes.

Grŵp Cynefin’s recent developments include Awel y Dyffryn, a £12 milion extra care housing scheme providing 66 flats for older people at the centre of Denbigh, brand new low-carbon homes for local people and families on estates at Waunfawr, Bethesda, Penygroes and Gwalchmai and the launch of a vision document for a ground-breaking £38 million health and community scheme for the Nantllle Valley.
