Awel y Coleg is an extra care housing scheme developed in 2012 by Grwp Cynefin in partnership with Cyngor Gwynedd. Located opposite Ysgol Godre’r Berwyn, the scheme provides housing, support and care services for people over 55 years of age.
Independence - Support - Community
Awel y Coleg offers older people the very best of independent modern living in a comfortable and safe surrounding. This facility has a real sense of community spirit.
You will be able to continue to live independently in one of our 30 self-contained apartments, with the reassurance that care and support is on hand 24 hours a day, if required.
Residents are supported and encouraged to live a full and active life, develop their interests and hobbies and to maintain their health and wellbeing. Grwp Cynefin staff provide housing related support for all tenants and there is a dedicated and experienced care team is on site 24 hours a day. Personalised, flexible support and care plans, should they be required, will be developed with you to suit your current and future needs.
With your own front door, your apartment is your home where you can continue to cook, entertain and enjoy an independent lifestyle. Each apartment consists of a kitchen, living area, bathroom and bedroom. The scheme is designed to enable you live in your own home for as long as possible and to make independent living easier.
Renting a one or two bedroom apartment at Awel y Coleg would also give you access to communal lounges where you could socialise with other residents and enjoy various planned activities, such as arts and crafts, coffee mornings, exercise class, quizzes, choir singing, gardening and intergenerational sessions with local children and young people. There is also a hobbies or craft room for tenants to enjoy.
Outside in the secure central garden, you’ll find a great place to relax and enjoy the fresh air. Living at Awel y Coleg enables you to maintain your independence and privacy whilst having the choice and opportunities to socialise and join-in as you wish.
A midday meal is served in the communal dining area daily, giving all residents the opportunity to enjoy a delicious and well-balanced meal and chat over lunch.
A popular room is the salon, where tenants can be pampered by local mobile hairdressing services. If you need a few essentials, a small shop selling goods such as milk, bread etc is available on site. Another handy resource is the laundry room. There is also a guest suite, where family or friends can stay for a small charge and enjoy spending time or being close to a family member.
Awel y Coleg offers peace of mind for you and your family and friends whilst at the same time giving you the independence and freedom to come and go as you please. You will be able to walk into town to visit friends or attend the many activities available in the close-knit community of Bala.
