Virtual meetings broaden the appeal of becoming a board member Thursday 10 June 2021
Two of north Wales’ leading housing organisations for older people are looking for dynamic individuals to make a real contribution to their future, as board members. Both Canllaw, which operates in Anglesey and Gwynedd, and Conwy and Denbighshire Care and Repair are hoping that recent developments where board meetings are held virtually, will make becoming a member more flexible and appealing
Canllaw and Conwy and Denbighshire Care and Repair have over the years helped thousands of older and/or disabled people to continue to live independently within their own homes. They provide specialist craftspeople who, following assessments, can visit homes to repair and adapt them to the client’s needs.
A current board member agrees that virtual meetings is a positive change.
“Being able to join board meetings through Teams has made the role much easier,” explains Stephen Edwards from Llanfairpwll, who is board member for Canllaw.
“You don’t have to travel by car or rush from work to attend meetings. It’s great to be able to stroll into the office with a cuppa in your hand, and make a real contribution to the discussion.”
Stephen says that for him, the appeal of being a board member was the opportunity to help people who need support in their homes and to contribute to a cause that’s close to his heart.
“As a boy who grew up in a council house in Llanberis, I feel very fortunate of my upbringing in a close-knit community. I became a board member so that I could give something back to help people in communities within my area. Everyone who sits around the virtual table has a valuable contribution to make.
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in health, or who has a background of working with older people or individuals with disabilities, from the private or public sectors to consider becoming a board member. You have nothing to lose and so much to gain.”
