Denbigh HWB development up for top housing award Tuesday 4 November 2014
An innovative new development that provides educational and employment opportunities for the Denbigh community is in the running for a national housing award.
HWB Dinbych, which is managed by Grŵp Cynefin, has been shortlisted for Development of the Year at the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Cymru’s Welsh Housing Awards 2014.
The awards celebrate excellence and examples of good practice from across Wales’ housing sector.
HWB Dinbych, located on a brownfield site on Smithfield Road, features a number of community facilities, including a music studio, IT room, teaching kitchen and classrooms.
The £2.2m development also features six flats for young people from the Denbigh area, and provides services to support and prepare them for independent living.
Rhys Dafis, Grŵp Cynefin’s Director of Regeneration Services, said: “The nomination for CIH Cymru’s Development of the Year award is fantastic recognition of the new building, which is a significant regeneration project for the town.
“The building is a valuable resource for the entire Denbigh community, from providing employment and educational opportunities for young people to offering a space for local groups to meet and learn new skills.”
The community development was also featured in the recent Denbighshire Open Doors event, which gave members of the public an opportunity to learn about the county’s interesting, unusual and significant homes and buildings.
HWB Dinbych is run in partnership with Denbighshire County Council’s Youth Services and housing departments, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, and the Denbigh Youth Project.
The CIH Cymru awards take place on November 21 at the Vale Resort near Cardiff.
