Consent to demolish former school buildings at Middle Lane, Denbigh Wednesday 13 September 2017
Grŵp Cynefin very much welcomes today’s decision by Denbighshire County Council’s Planning Committee to allow the demolition of existing buildings on the former Middle Lane School site. This is a significant milestone in the project to provide much needed extra care housing for older people in Denbigh.
Rhys Dafis, Grŵp Cynefin’s Regeneration Services Director, said “Full planning permission for the £10m+, 70 apartment scheme was granted in February 2017, and we are naturally relieved that we may now proceed to carefully demolish and clear the site, to prepare for the next phase of the development.
“However, we appreciate the historical significance of the original school to Denbigh’s heritage. We will therefore be working with local partners such as Denbigh Museum to ensure the commemorative stones and other significant features from the original school building are safely kept and sited in an agreed public position with an information board.
We would like to thank Denbighshire County Council for their support in ensuring this much needed housing project is able to go ahead.”
Councillor Bobby Feeley, Cabinet Lead Member for Well-being and Independence, said: “Extra care schemes have become increasingly popular in Denbighshire and across Wales, over the last few years, and they are carefully planned and built to cater for the needs of older vulnerable residents. These homes are comfortable, welcoming and secure and allow people to continue living independently, but with the added reassurance that help and support is available 24 hours a day, should it be needed.”
“The scheme at Pentre Canol aims to provide a top quality extra care service for residents of Denbigh and surrounding communities; the facilities are close to the town centre amenities and there are regular public transport services in and out of the town.”
“This decision marks another significant milestone in the on-going development of extra care in Denbighshire”.
